It is not possible directly, but there may be a workaround: try  
creating a small HTML wrapper file (basically just an embed/object tag  
for the Flash player) and pass that HTML file to a <text> tag in SMIL.  
The swf will be free-running, i.e. it will be blissfully unaware of  
the SMIL document being paused and such, but it may work well enough  
for your application.

If you do try this: please report back whether it works (I never got  
around to actually trying it:-). If it does work we could consider  
putting that glue HTML inside Ambulant itself so you could refer the  
the Flash file directly. And (dreaming on:-), then we could add bits  
of Javascript glue too, so Ambulant could actually have some control  
over Flash playback.
