in third_party_packages/readme.txt it says:

xulrunner-sdk:
For building AmbulantPlayer as a plugin for Firefox Web
browser, download:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/xulrunner/releases/1.9.0.1/sdk/xulrunner-1.9.0.1.en-US.XXX.sdk.zip http://gmx.com/dereferrer/?target=http%3A%2F%2Freleases.mozilla.org%2Fpub%2Fmozilla.org%2Fxulrunner%2Freleases%2F1.9.0.1%2Fsdk%2Fxulrunner-1.9.0.1.en-US.XXX.sdk.zip

Maybe your version in the ubuntu repository is not the right one...

Just a hint... Ambulant developers will give a better answer :-)

PS In INSTALL I read:

If you want to build the Firefox plugin you need to add
--with-npambulant. But: you should first read
src/npambulant/README-linux and third_party_packages/readme.txt for
instructions on downloading the Mozilla XPCOM API.

but I can't find src/npambulant/README-linux

I think I have the first 2.2b package (how can I know the version?)
