Niall,
for now, the quickest solution is to build Ambulant from the CVS sources, www.ambulantplayer.org has a pointer to the SourceForge page where you can download them. You want to build the branch "ambulant-release-22-branch", as there are some changes to the plugin build procedure there that haven't been merged with the trunk yet.

We should be releasing another source tarball shortly, but this week and next are very busy for us.
