offers a barebones example of the use of textMode='crawl'

Adding a root-layout to the layout element and commenting the region 
element allows 2.2b9 to load the XML. With the existing region element 
intact the XML will not parse.

In the bugs database there is a note that dur= can affect the 
functioning of crawl. Adding a dur= to the smilText element still 
results in a parse failure.

Commenting the region element, adding another to hold the smilText 
element, add a dur= to smilText allows the 'tev begin' to work but 'tev 
next' does not appear.

New bugs or just me?

PS My one attempt to load a file location using

$ AmbulantPlayer_gtk file.smil

where the smil file was located in the working directory but incomplete 
as a SMIL file resulted in a very hard crash of the system.
